Gloucestershire woman conned out of thousands in PPI scam
Despite there being several warnings to the British public that fraudulent individuals are trying to scam people out of money, another woman has lost thousands of pounds. With the Payment Protection Scandal (PPI) continuing to stay in the spotlight, fraudsters are taking the opportunity to cold call residents and they pretend that they could claim money back. Now, a Gloucestershire based woman has lost thousands in a PPI swindle.
Claiming missold PPI compensation is crucial for those people who genuinely have been sold insurance cover wrongly. In the past, it has been revealed that scammers were cold calling individuals, saying that they could claim back thousands in compensation and asking for administrative fees.
In the latest scam, the situation was a little different, with the victim having already been in the process of making a claim with a legitimate company. However, it is believed that data theft meant that her details ended up with the fraudsters, who then called the victim and managed to get her to make money transfers worth thousands. It was not until later that the woman realised that she had been conned.
PC Roni Dadge warned: “This was a clever scam that targeted people already involved in the reclaiming process. It is understandable that some of them would be duped. The only way to protect yourself is to remember that no legitimate company will ask you for money upfront before compensation can be processed.” For those who are looking to make a missold PPI claim, dealing with trustworthy companies and safeguarding personal details is vital.
